ABOUT
Laura Gunder is a classically trained Pilates instructor based in New York City, where she completed her 500 hours of comprehensive training under the guidance of Jennifer Deluca. Always a student, Laura continues her training and education with Katie Yip. Laura has taught private and group lessons for Equinox, and now works independently. Laura’s introduction to Pilates comes from her experience and history as a professional ballet dancer — searching for a complimentary cross-training method to supplement her dancing. Trained in the Balanchine method at the School of American Ballet in NYC, Laura danced professionally with Pacific Northwest Ballet and Kansas City Ballet before transitioning her focus to Pilates education. Laura graduated from the New School with a BA in liberal arts focusing on global studies, sociology, and gender studies. Laura is passionate about helping her clients - of all ages and experience levels - deepen their understanding and connection to their bodies and physical selves. Using the classical Pilates method, Laura tailors each session to the body before her, learning as much from them as they do from her.
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a full-body workout of mind, body, breath, and coordination developed by Joseph Pilates. Also known as Contrology, it “develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” Pilates seeks to improve body imbalances, flexibility, stability, and core strength while deepening your connection to your physical self.
The Pilates Method connects you to your center — the “powerhouse,” helping the body function at its optimal efficiency, both in and out of the studio. Pilates is for everybody, providing an excellent workout for all ages and fitness levels by meeting you where you are on your physical journey.
